TIL Desk Lucknow:👉The Central Command was raised at Lucknow on 01 May 1963, post Sino-India war of 1962. Lt Gen Kanwar Bahadur Singh, MBE, was the first General Officer Commanding-in-Chief and its founder.
On the occasion of 61st Command Raising Day, Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C Central Command extended greetings and best wishes to all ranks, veterans, Veer Naris and families. He exhorted all ranks of Central Command to rededicate themselves with full commitment and enthusiasm to successfully face the challenges in the future and achieve excellence in every sphere.
Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha, SM, VSM, Chief of Staff, Central Command, in a solemn ceremony at ‘Smritika War Memorial’, paid tribute to the bravehearts who laid down their lives for the safety and security of the Nation.
Central Command is one of the seven commands of the Indian Army and has its headquarters at Lucknow. It spans across eight states, namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand. It covers regions from the rugged peaks of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to the serene beaches of Odisha. It is uniquely positioned in the center of the country and shares a boundary with every command. Surya Command, while ensuring the sanctity and security of the middle sector and hinterland, provides support to the entire Indian Army through its training establishments and logistic nodes as it has a direct access to land, sea and air routes.
In the last 60 years, Central Command also known as Surya Command, has taken part in major operations such as CACTUS LILY, PAWAN, RAKSHAK, VIJAY and various internal security duties and disaster management operations like Operation SAHAYATA and MAITRI.
