TIL Desk Lucknow:👉The Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University’s Pro Bono Club, in collaboration with Pairvi, successfully hosted a symposium on the recent overhauling of the Criminal Justice System in India. The event, held on July 30, 2024, delved into the implications, challenges, and opportunities presented by the new legal framework.

The symposium featured three insightful sessions: ‘Innovation in Criminal Justice Laws: Implications and Challenges’, ‘Transformative Impact of the New Evidence Law in the Realm of Criminal Justice’, and ‘New Criminal Justice Laws and Human Rights Protection in the Digital Age’. Eminent legal experts, faculty members, and students engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the far-reaching consequences of these reforms.

Mr. Dinbandhu Vats from Pairvi delivered the welcome address, providing a layman’s perspective on the overhauling process with a strong emphasis on human rights. The chief guest, Mr. G.K. Goswami, Director of the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences, underscored the crucial role of forensic science in ensuring the effective delivery of justice. He stressed the need for incorporating forensic studies into the law curriculum and the importance of utilizing forensic evidence to prevent wrongful convictions. Mr. Goswami also advocated for including the concept of exoneration in the Indian criminal justice system.

Prof. Amar Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of RMLNLU, offered valuable insights into the new criminal bills, emphasizing integrating forensic science into the justice delivery system. He highlighted the significance of digitization and indigenization within the framework of these reforms. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Manish Singh (Chairperson ProBono), Prof. Vikas Bhati, Prof. Aman Deep Singh, Prof. Malay Pandey, Prof. Manoj Kumar, Prof. Vipul Vinod, Prof. Ankita Yadav and Prof. Prem Kumar Gautam, among other distinguished faculty members.

The symposium provided a platform for in-depth analysis of the innovative aspects of the new criminal justice laws, the transformative potential of the revised evidence law, and the challenges of safeguarding human rights in the digital age. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to understanding and effectively implementing the overhauled criminal justice system.
