TIL Desk/National/Kolkata-The main accused in Park Street gangrape case was arrested by a special team of Kolkata Police from New Delhi night. Suzette Jordan, woman’s rights activist was apprehended and gangraped by five men in a moving car. The incident happened on February 6, 2012. The police also arrested, Ali, who was accompanied Khan in Delhi. The two will be produced before a local court and will be brought to Kolkata. Jordan passed away in March 2015.
Three accused who were on trial in the case were pronounced guilty in December 2015, nine months after Jordan’s death. The Additional Sessions Judge Chiranjib Bhattacharya of the City Sessions Court had pronounced Ruman Khan, Naser Khan and Sumit Bajaj guilty of offences under the Indian Penal Code. They were charged with gangrape, criminal conspiracy, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and common intention.
The court sentenced them to a term of 10 years in jail during the time which Kader Khan and Ali were in hiding. The court sentenced the accused to a term of 10 years in jail. Three of them have already spent four years in jail. 40-year-old, a divorcee and mother of two was beaten up and gangraped at gun point and then thrown off the vehicle. She had come out of a night club on the Park Street when she was forcefully taken. Jordan revealed her identity on television in June 2013 and fought her case despite odds.
