TIL Desk/National/New Delhi-In a major blow to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, the Supreme Court cancelled his bail plea today. The mafia-turned politician was released after 11 years from Bhagalpur jail in connection with a murder case on September 9. It is not even a month the Siwan strongman is out; the decision of the Apex Court today shattered all his hopes.
After the hearing, Lawyer Prashant Bhushan said the strongman will be taken to jail forthwith. As per reports, the high court gave him bail earlier this month in the murder case of Rajiv Roshan, Prasad’s son who was the only eye-witness of the murder of his two younger brothers in Siwan in 2004. On September 26, the Supreme Court had decided to hear petitions for cancellation of Shahabuddin’s bail granted by the Patna high court, but Shahabuddin’s lawyer asked for more time from the top court to respond to cancellation of bail plea.
“I have remained away from home for 13 years. Everyone knows I was falsely implicated in the case,” the former parliamentarian said after leaving jail. Lawyer Prashant Bhushan had filed the petition on behalf of Kalawati Devi, the mother of the three sons who were allegedly murdered by Shahabuddin in two separate crimes. The woman who was an eyewitness to the incident has challenged the Patna High Court’s 2 March this year order granting regular bail to him during pendency of his appeal. After the Apex Court decision, Shahabuddin surrendered before Siwan District Court and said, “I don’t care about what people say, I respect the judiciary system”.
