TIL Desk UP/ The Digital Saksham initiative by CII and Mastercard has been a success in innovating local industries in textiles, leathercraft, jewellery, and culinary arts across Uttar Pradesh. The program is benefiting local entrepreneurs and small businesses like weavers and artisans by leveraging digital resources to propel traditional businesses onto the global platform. Notably, it has increased digital payments among micro and small business owners, fostering financial inclusion and has reached 6000small and micro industries.
The Digital Saksham initiative is a catalyst for innovation, growth, and sustainability, emphasizing a collaborative spirit essential for a transformative movement in the local industries. This program in Uttar Pradesh is ushering in a new era of cultural preservation and economic progress by blending modern technology with traditional handicraft. Examples include Lucknow’s Digital Saree Emporium, connecting regional weavers with global audiences, and Varanasi’s Digital Silk Route, showcasing the city’s silk products worldwide. The Digital Leathercraft initiative in Sonbhadra promotes traditional leather manufacturing globally.
Agra’s Digital Jewellery Atelier redefines the industry by merging digital innovation with traditional craftsmanship and Mathura’s Digital Flavours contributes to the state’s digital renaissance, promoting collaboration between businesses, government agencies, and local communities. Mr M Ponnuswami, Co-Chairman, CII National MSME Council and Chairman and Managing Director, Pon Pure Chemical India Private Limited, remarked, “The recent budget showcased the focus of the government towards MSMEs and their role in making India a global manufacturing hub. This requires MSMEs to scale up their businesses in which digital technologies play an essential role in meetingchanging requirements and business needs. Uttar Pradesh is among the leading states that have been working towards uplifting the MSMEs who are working in different clusters.
Empowering the local entrepreneurs will not only fast-track this journey but equally support preserving the rich cultural heritage and bringing it on a national scale. Digital Saksham Project while working at the clusters of the micro enterprises has so far reached to 30,100 enterprises, trained over 9040 entrepreneurs.
