India’s former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is consigned to flames amid a 21-gun salute and cheers of Atal Bihariji ki jai. The former prime minister and Bharat Ratna cremated with full state honours at Smriti Sthal in Delhi.
The Sthal is located between Jawaharlal Nehru’s memorial ‘Shanti Van’ and Lal Bahadur Shastri’s ‘Vijay Ghat’. Former prime minister IK Gujral was also cremated at Smriti Sthal on the banks of river Yamuna in December 2012. The sthal is a common memorial ground.
