PM Modi receives UN's Champions of the Earth Award

TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ After receiving United Nation’s Champions of the Earth Award for 2018, Narendra Modi thanked the world community for acknowledging India’s effort to save environment.  He dedicated the award to the countless Indians and their efforts towards achieving climate justice. He also stated that it is a proud moment for India to host such an event.

Climate and calamity are directly related to culture; if climate is not the focus of culture, calamity cannot be prevented. When I say ‘Sabka Saath,’ I also include nature in it, said PM Modi.  PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron were jointly awarded the honour for their pioneering work in championing the International Solar Alliance and promoting new areas of cooperation on environmental action.

Giving credit to farmers and the indigenous communities, Modi said they are the true recipients of the award. He also said that from sewer to surveillance, India is shifting towards smart technology.  The award was announced on the sidelines of 73rd UN General Assembly in New York, will be presented by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. PM Narendra Modi received the ‘UNEP Champions of the Earth’ award from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, at a ceremony in Delhi.
