Dr AK Thakar, Director Neurology, said that this problem is mostly seen in people after the age of 50 years, but from the past years , cases of brain stroke are also increasing in people aged 30 to 35 years. The number of stroke cases are increasing every year due to improper diet, lack of exercise and stress, which is a matter of concern in itself, hence Stroke Day is celebrated every year to increase awareness about stroke. In order to prevent stroke one must pay attention to its symptoms which can be observed in the patient such as a lot of difficulty in speaking and understanding, suddenly not able to speak any sentence when asked to communicate anything and not understanding anything. Dr Ritwij Bihari, Associate Director Neurology, stressed the importance of golden hour in reaching the hospital in case of stroke and educated people about the importance of golden hour, which lasts for 4.5 hours after the onset of stroke. After a stroke, more than 2 lakh brain cells die per minute; In this situation, the patient should be taken to the nearest hospital, and not just any hospital, but a hospital equipped with stroke curing facilities, so that a quick and best treatment can be given to save the patient. Even under such circumstances, progress has been made in treatment. A neuro-radiologist-X, neuro-interventionist may use a device to remove clots from the arteries of the brain. If quick analysis and action is taken before reaching the hospital, treatment can help patients more effectively to save their lives.
