United States not looking to go to war with Iran: White House

TIL Desk/World/Lahore/ The United States is not looking to go to war with Iran, the White House said Wednesday even as it cautioned that President Donald Trump will remain “firm” in his position. The US stoked fears that it was headed to a war with Iran after that it announced that America will deploy an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force in the Middle East to send a “clear and unmistakable” message to Iran that any attack on American interests or its allies will be met with “unrelenting force”.

Asked if the US was headed to war with Iran, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said, “I certainly hope not”.”But the president is going to remain firm on our position and I don’t think anybody is looking for any type of war with anybody,” she said. US National Security Advisor John Bolton said on Sunday the decision to deploy the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the US Central Command region in the Middle East was in response to a number of “troubling and escalatory indications and warnings” from Iran.

The deployment move had come after Trump last month refused to give waivers to countries like India from buying oil from Iran, in an attempt to reduce Iran’s oil exports to zero. After coming to power, Trump withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal last year and has imposed stringent sanctions against what he describes as the “authoritarian” Iranian regime.
